Yes, Claude Skills are completely safe. All skills are stored locally on your machine in your Claude configuration folder (~/.claude/commands/). Your data never leaves your computer through the skills themselves—they simply provide context to Claude during your conversations. Skills are plain text markdown files you can inspect anytime. No background processes, no data collection, no third-party services.

No coding required! Installation takes about 2 minutes: 1) Download and unzip the package, 2) Copy the skill files to your ~/.claude/commands/ folder (we include exact paths for Mac, Windows, and Linux), 3) Restart Claude Code or Claude Desktop. That's it. We include a step-by-step PDF guide with screenshots for every operating system.

Claude Skills are specifically designed for Claude Code and Claude Desktop—they leverage Claude's native context loading and automatic triggering system. While you could copy the prompt content into ChatGPT as custom instructions, you'd lose the automatic activation and trigger patterns. For ChatGPT, consider their 'Custom GPTs' feature, but note you'd need to manually recreate each skill.

Skills work with both Claude Code (the CLI tool) and Claude Desktop. For the best experience, we recommend Claude Pro or Claude Code subscription—you'll get longer context windows and faster responses. The free Claude tier works too, but you may hit usage limits more quickly when skills add context to your conversations.

Claude Skills use pattern matching to activate based on your conversation context. For example, the 'negotiator' skill triggers when you discuss pricing, contracts, or sales outreach. The 'code-review' skill activates when you ask Claude to review code or find bugs. Each skill includes its trigger patterns so you can customize when they activate. Absolutely! Skills are plain markdown files—open them in any text editor. Add your company's coding standards to the backend skills. Include your brand voice in the writing skills. Add industry-specific knowledge to the negotiation skill. You can also create entirely new skills by following the same format. We include a 'skill-template.md' file to help you get started with your own.

Regular skills work immediately—just copy and use. Plugin skills (marked with 'Plugin' badge) require installing an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, which takes a few extra steps. Plugins enable deeper integrations like persistent memory across sessions (claude-mem) or real-time code analysis. Installation instructions are included for each plugin skill.

Yes! For small teams, simply share the zip file or include skills in your team's dotfiles repository. Each team member copies skills to their local Claude config.
